CAT SCARF CROCHET PATTERN

Skill Level: Easy

Yarn: Fine wool

Materials Needed:

  • Hook: US 6 / UK 8 / 4mm
  • Sport wool yarn:
    • 1 ball (100gr/3.5oz) in yellow
    • 1 ball (100gr/3.5oz) in light grey
    • 1 ball (100gr/3.5oz) in dark grey
    • Approximately 20gr of white
  • Fiberfill (a big handful)
  • Wool needle
  • Scissors

Measurements:

One size. The scarf is 61.5″ (156cm) long.

Gauge:

  • Single crochet (sc) – UK double crochet
  • Double crochet (dc) – UK treble crochet
  • Crab stitch
  • Embroidery back stitch
  • Embroidery twisted stitch
  • Crossed stitch

Note: This pattern uses US crochet terms.


PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

SCARF

Use the same pattern as the gauge.

With light grey yarn, work in rows, starting each row with a ch:

  1. 25 chains, [1sc in 1st ch, 1dc in next ch], repeat * 12 times; [24 sts]
  2. [1sc in 1st st, 1dc in next st], repeat * 12 times; [24 sts]
    3-4. Change to yellow yarn and repeat row 2: [24 sts]
    5-218. Continue alternating: 2 rows grey, 2 rows yellow.

Fasten off and weave in ends on wrong side. Crab stitch around the scarf with light grey yarn. Fasten off and weave in ends.


TAIL

With dark grey yarn, work in spiral:

  1. Magic loop, 6sc in the loop, tighten; [6]
  2. 2sc in each st; [12]
  3. [2sc inc, 3sc], repeat * 3 times; [15]
    4-37. 1sc in each st; [15]

Fasten off, leaving enough thread to sew tail onto scarf.


LEGS (make 4)

With dark grey yarn, work in spiral:

  1. Magic loop, 6sc in the loop, tighten; [6]
  2. 2sc in each st; [12]
  3. [2sc inc, 1sc], repeat * 6 times; [18]
    4-27. 1sc in each st; [18]

Fasten off, leaving enough thread to sew legs onto scarf.


MUZZLE (make 2)

With light grey yarn, work in closed rounds:

  1. Magic loop, 6sc in the loop, tighten; [6]
  2. 2sc in each st; [12]
  3. [2sc inc, 1sc], repeat * 6 times; [18]
  4. Sl st around the circle

Fasten off, leaving enough thread to sew muzzle onto head.


HEAD (Front)

With dark grey yarn, work in spiral:

  1. Magic loop, 6sc in the loop, tighten; [6]
  2. 2sc in each st; [12]
  3. [2sc inc, 1sc], repeat * 6 times; [18]
  4. [1sc, 2sc inc, 1sc], repeat * 6 times; [24]
  5. [3sc, 2sc inc], repeat * 6 times; [30]
  6. [2sc, 2sc inc, 2sc], repeat * 6 times; [36]
  7. [3sc, 2sc inc], repeat * 6 times; [42]
  8. [3sc, 2sc inc, 3sc], repeat * 6 times; [48]

Fasten off and weave in ends on wrong side.


HEAD (Back)

Repeat front head instructions from rows 1-11.
Fasten off, leaving enough thread to sew back and front together.


EARS (make 2)

With dark grey yarn, work in spiral:

  1. Magic loop, 6sc in the loop, tighten; [6]
  2. 1sc in each st; [6]
  3. [2sc inc, 2sc], repeat * 2 times; [8]
  4. [2sc inc, 3sc], repeat * 2 times; [10]
  5. [2sc inc, 4sc], repeat * 2 times; [12]
  6. [2sc inc, 5sc], repeat * 2 times; [14]
  7. [2sc inc, 6sc], repeat * 2 times; [16]
  8. [2sc inc, 7sc], repeat * 2 times; [18]
  9. [2sc inc, 8sc], repeat * 2 times; [20]

Fasten off, leaving enough thread to sew ears onto head.


ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Attach muzzle to head, positioned below center.
  2. Embroider eyes with white yarn using back stitches, then finish with twisted stitches.
  3. Embroider nose and whiskers.
  4. Weave in all ends securely on wrong side.
  5. Attach ears to front head on 12th row, spaced 9 stitches apart.
  6. Sew back head to front using crossed stitches, stuffing with fiberfill before closing completely.
  7. Attach head to scarf at 6th colored row.
  8. With white yarn, embroider details on legs and weave in ends.
  9. Attach all legs to scarf, ensuring they’re on the same side.
  10. Attach tail between 8th and 9th colored rows, centered on scarf.
